8/22/2003: ACH Regulations impose New Responsibilities on VirtualCheck Users

When the LinkPoint 2.6.1 release occurs, VirtualCheck users need to take care to ensure compliance with new Automated Clearing House (ACH) regulations. Merchants have increased responsibilities. New requirements are explained in product documentation, release notes, help files, and FAQs, so please carefully read your product documentation (available at www.linkpoint.com/support).

Telephone-based ACH orders are treated differently than paper-based orders (mail or retail) and e-commerce orders.

Telephone Orders:

If you use LinkPoint VirtualCheck to take orders over the phone, please take note.

  • Required fields have changed. You will now need driver's license information to authenticate the user's identity, in addition to other customer information.
  • You also must ensure you have documented authorization to initiate the debit to the consumer's account. See the product documentation to learn how to meet this requirement.

E-commerce Orders:

If you use LinkPoint VirtualCheck to take orders over the Internet, please take note.

  • Required fields have changed. You will now need driver's license information to authenticate the user's identity in addition to other customer information.
  • You also must ensure you have documented authorization to initiate the debit to the consumer's account. A checkbox on a form does NOT suffice. See the product documentation to learn how to meet this requirement.

Mail Orders and Retail Orders:

If you use LinkPoint VirtualCheckTM to take orders via the mail or face-to-face, please take note.

  • You must ensure you have documented authorization to initiate the debit to the consumer's account. See the product documentation to learn how to meet this requirement.
  • LinkPoint Central users will need to enter all required fields for all VirtualCheck transactions.

For more information on these new regulations and how they affect you, please see the section entitled Rules for VirtualCheck transactions in LPC Help or in the LinkPoint API 3.0 Integration Guide. The rules are also explained in the LinkPoint Connect 2.6.1 User Manual, in the sections on Bypassing the Payment Form and VirtualCheck Reference.
